Fleischmanns — The second annual Catskills Cup tennis tournament will be played in Fleischmanns’ Wagner Avenue Park from July 30 to August 1, with an evening of barbecue and free live music on Friday July 30 and a hall of fame dinner on Saturday, July 31 featuring the music of zydeco jam of L’il Anne and Hot Cayenne.

The Margaretville Central School Booster club will sponsor an All-Sports Camp for student-athletes in kindergarten through eighth grade beginning Aug. 2. The All-Sports Camp will provide campers with the opportunity to choose from a variety of activities, including baseball, basketball, soccer, crab soccer, dodgeball, flag football, floor hockey, kickball, lacrosse, PE paintball, pickleball, tag games, tennis, ultimate Frisbee, Wiffleball and other activities.

The Margaretville American Legion Post 216 baseball team dropped a tough 23-4 loss to Hancock in the championship game of the 2010 Delaware County American Junior Legion Baseball League in Walton last Thursday. Margaretville advanced to the championship game after posting a 5-0 win over Bainbridge in the semifinal last Monday.
The Margaretville boys were unable to bounce back from an 11-run opening inning posted by Hancock.

Margaretville rode a brilliant pitching performance by Patrick O’Connell to earn an extra-inning 5-0 win over host Bainbridge on Monday and advance to the Delaware County Junior Legion Baseball Championship.

Two local teams faced off in legion baseball action this week as squads from Margaretville and Roxbury split a doubleheader in Margaretville on Thursday. Although Margaretville posted a solid 14-0 victory in the first match-up, Roxbury bounced back to take the second game 3-1.

The Margaretville Junior Legion baseball team began its season last week, opening against Stamford on Friday, June 11, and facing Delhi and Hancock on Tuesday and Thursday, respectively.
Under the guidance of veteran Margaretville baseball coach Rick Funck, the Margaretville squad, which has 15 players in grades seven through 11, fell to Stamford and Delhi before earning a win over Hancock.

The 10th annual Tunament, a fund-raising golf tournament, will be held on Friday, July 30 at Shephard Hills Golf Course in Roxbury. The Tunament is held in memory of Margaretville native Bill “Tuna” Sanford.

They went to SUNY Cortland to take place in the Empire State Senior Games not really knowing what to expect. It was more adventurous spirit than expectation that brought them there. At the start of play in the 60-64-year-old age bracket of the pickleball championships, any pressure Peter Lederman and Jeff Ditchek may have felt they put on themselves.
