In 180 minutes of head-to-head competition prior to Friday’s quarterfinal showdown, the Margaretville and South Kortright boys’ soccer teams had managed a combined three goals.  The defensive fortress crumbled on Friday as the Blue Devils outlasted the Rams, 4-3, in a wild and woolly Section IV quarterfinal contest played in Margaretville.

Morris too strong; ends Lady Blue Devils season

In the end Morris was simply too strong.  The defending Section IV girls’ soccer champions had too much size, too much speed, and too much skill in Saturday’s quarterfinal match-up with Margaretville.  A 3-0 Morris win ended Margaretville’s run of 12 consecutive unbeaten games and put the finishing touches to the Blue Devils’ Cinderella season.

Blue Devils golf up to par

The rebirth of competitive high school golf at Margaretville took hold four years ago. The MCS golf effort began as a club activity, evolved into a competitive high school sport, and elevated to the status as a Delaware League title contender.

Margaretville concluded the 2012 regular season with a 9-2 overall record. The Blue Devils finished 6-1 in DL play good for second place behind undefeated Windham.

Nine players are on the Margaretville roster. Six of the nine compete in matches. The top four scores of the six make up the team’s cumulative score in a match.

Margaretville goalie Mitch Hull could see the entire field in front of him, and he didn’t like what he saw. Margaretville had been whistled for a foul and South Kortright senior Dylan Cole was cuing the ball up for a direct kick, six or seven strides beyond midfield on SK’s offensive side of the field. With time melting on the clock and Margaretville clinging to a 1-0 lead, Hull’s teammates succumbed to protective instincts and retreated to cluster deep on their defensive end in front of the goal.
