Marguerite (Higinson) Bender, passed peacefully with her son, daughter, and pastor by her side on Monday, August 28, 2012 at the age of 90 at her home in Weston, CT.

Marguerite was born on Flag Day, June 14, 1922 in Hillsdale, NJ. She was the daughter of the late Walter Higinson and the late Margaret (Brogeler) Higinson.

Shaker Heights, OH – Sarasota, FL - Frederic R. Colie, Jr. died after a long illness on September 16, 2012, his 83rd birthday, with his loving wife, Judy, by his side.

Marjorie E. Hewitt, 73, of Roxbury died Sunday, Sept. 16, 2012 at her residence.
Marjorie was born in Roxbury on September 14, 1939, the daughter of Roger and Edna (Lutz) Harrington.

She was a stay-at-home mom for her five children and later worked for Miller and CVS pharmacies in Margaretville and at the Margaretville Post Office. She enjoyed playing the bingo.

Stella A. (Balses) Dorsett, 93, of Margaretville died September 11, 2012 in Margaretville.
She was born June 10, 1919 in Manhattan, the daughter of Stan and Tessie (Zuikis) Kaznak.
Stella married Thomas W. Dorsett on November 3, 1946 at Yorkville. He died September 10, 1999.
Stella was employed at Macy’s Department Store and also at Stern Brothers Department Store in New York City. Later Stella was an assistant librarian at the accounting firm of Peat, Marwick, Mitchell & Co., also in New York, before retiring from that firm in 1980.

David Halbe Brown, 76, a former resident of Frost Valley YMCA in Denning, died on September 13, 2012 after a lengthy illness.

He was born on February 26, 1936 in Youngstown, Ohio, to Reverend Thomas and Helene (Halbe) Brown. He grew up with six siblings and maintained strong connections to them and their families throughout his life. He was actively involved with the Youngstown YMCA as a youth and young adult. He graduated from Youngstown State University and began a career with the YMCA that spanned nearly a half-century.

Committal services for Stanley Lester Squires, Jr. and Edna Mary Squires, late of Sun City, Florida and formerly of Margaretville, will be held at the Margaretville Cemetery Annex at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday Sept. 22, 2012, with Shirley Davis officiating.

Stan was born July 29, 1947 in Margaretville, the son of Stanley Lester and Elsa (Timer) Squires. He died July 29, 2012.

He graduated from Margaretville Central School in 1965. Stanley was predeceased by his first wife Maria Segnini and his second wife Edna White.

Karen Arlands, 74, of Margaretville, died September 5, 2012 at Albany Medical Center.
She was born June 22, 1938 at Yonkers, the daughter of Christopher and Lillian  (O’Donnell) Fyfe.
Karen grew up in Yonkers where she met Gil Arlands, the love of her life. They married on February 14, 1960. Karen and Gil are the parents of three children; Douglas, Susan, and Glenn.

Bernice Caroline (Blind) Trapani died on September 6, 2012 at her home in Roxbury.
She was born on March 11, 1924 and raised by her parents, Frederick and Julia (Cheshire) Blind in Shavertown. She attended Andes High School before moving to Brooklyn when the Pepacton Reservoir was built.

A graduate of Franklin K. Lane High School and St. Catherine’s School of Nursing, Mrs. Trapani earned a R.N. degree in 1945. She married Louis J. Trapani, in 1946. They met during WWII while she was playing second base on the all-women’s baseball team, which Mr. Trapani managed.

Nancy Sanford Myers of West Palm Beach, FL, passed away on Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2012 at Good Samaritan Medical Center in West Palm Beach, FL. Nancy, and her husband Wyckoff, were frequent summer visitors to the Catskills and had recently returned to their home in Florida after having spent a month at their camp, Puddingstone, on Perch Lake in the Town of Andes where a family reunion on August 4 celebrated the 75th anniversary of the camp’s founding.

John Orban Jr. put a smile on many faces. Husband of (and preceded in passing by) Kay Delaney (Roxbury Central High School teacher 1930-1934), John died March 7, 2012 at the age of 100 years and 31 days.

He and Kay spent more than 50 wonderful summers in Roxbury. In place of a graveside service as previously announced, a celebration of life get-together will be held Sunday September 16.
