John T. Nolan

John T. Nolan Sr., 84, of Dry Brook, a lifetime area resident, died Monday Dec. 20, 2010 at Margaretville Hospital.

He was born March 31, 1926 in New York City, a son of the late John and Mary (Todd) Nolan.
John served in the Cavalry Reconnaissance Unit of the United States Army from 1944 to 1947.


Louise Frevert

Louise Frevert passed away at Mountainside Residential Care Center on Tuesday, Dec. 21, 2010. She was born January 10, 1918 to Elbert and Ethel Hunt in Farmington, MO.

She married William Frevert in 1944 (deceased), and moved to Roxbury in 1952.


Virginia Ballard

A memorial mass for Virginia L. Ballard, late of Denver, who died on December 6, 2010, will be offered at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 16, 2010 at Holy Family Parish Catholic Church in Little Falls.
The Rev. Thomas Lawless will be the celebrant.


Willis Van Keuren Jr.

Willis Ransom Van Keuren Jr., 70, passed away Thursday, Dec. 9, 2010, in Inverness, FL following a brief illness.

He was born in Margaretville on September 27, 1940, the only child of Willis R. Van Keuren Sr. and Catherine Laughman.


Dorothy Cartwright

Dorothy Jean (Davidson) Cartwright, 96, died Saturday, Dec. 4, 2010 at Berks Heim Nursing Home, Reading, PA where she had resided for the past eight years.

She was born March 27, 1914 in the middle of a snowstorm at the home of her parents, Clifford and Clara Davidson, on Tupper Hill in Treadwell. She was the oldest of seven children.


Virginia Ballard

Virginia L. Ballard, 58, of Denver, passed away Monday, Dec. 6, 2010 at Albany Medical Center, Albany. She was born January 6, 1952 in Brooklyn, the daughter of James J. and Virginia Louise (Porter) O’Hare.


James Miller Jr.

James W. Miller Jr., 63, died at home in Ogdensburg on Thursday, Dec. 2, 2010. He was a native of the Catskills.

He was born April 9, 1947 in Margaretville, the son of the late James and Helen Mech Miller. James was a graduate of Fleischmanns High School and Delhi College.


Donald Searle

Donald L. Searle, 70, of Townsend Hollow Road, Fleischmanns, died suddenly on Monday December 6, 2010 at Margaretville Hospital. 

A native and life-long resident, he was born December 23, 1939 in Margaretville, son of the late Lumen and Mary Craft Searle.  He was a graduate of Fleischmanns High School, Class of 1958.


Andrew Schuman Jr.

Andrew Schuman Jr., 87, of Roxbury, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2010, at home, surrounded by his loving family.

Andrew, known affectionately as “Andy,” “Jun,” “Newt,” or “Grandpa,” was born on March 8, 1923, son of the late Andrew and Jennie (McKenzie) Schuman on the Schuman Brothers family farm in Roxbury.


Mabel George

Mabel S. George, 93, of Arkville, passed away Friday, Nov. 26, 2010 at Mountainside Residential Care Center, Margaretville.

She was born April 1, 1917 in Allaben, the daughter of Ralph and Blanche (Colwell) VanKeuren.
She married Merwin (Jake) George on December 31, 1934 at Highland.
