Betty Munro

Betty Martin Munro, a life-long resident of Delaware Coun­ty, passed away peacefully on March 30, 2014 at the age of 84. Betty was born July 30, 1929, to Wendall and Elisabeth Sacket Martin. She and eight siblings, Wendall (Stub), Frank (Pepper), Don, Dave, Jim, Stan, Jeanne, and Jerry, enjoyed great adventures on the Prairie Hill Farm near Bloomville, known for its 16-sided dairy barn, and Martin family sugar bush.

Margaret "Peg" Sweeney

Margaret Ann Sweeney of Arkville passed away peacefully at her longtime home on Saturday, March 22, 2014, surrounded by her loving family.
“Peg,” as many called her, was well known for her long career as a clerk at Fairview Public Library and for her many years of service as a community volunteer.

David Sive

David Sive, a part-time resident of Millbrook, died on March 12, 2014 after a long illness.
A prominent environmental law attorney, it was his love of the outdoors and especially of the Catskills, that turned him toward that branch of law as it emerged in the 1960s and 1970s. He and his wife Mary had earlier purchased the Burton Hall farm, and it became their home upon retirement.

Donald Odell

Donald A. Odell, 88, a resident of Dry Brook, Town of Hardenburgh, Ulster County died Sunday, March 16, 2014.
Born in Margaretville in 1925, he was the son of Harry G. and Mary C. Odell.

Mark Cammer

Mark L. Cammer, 50, of Roxbury passed away Wednesday, March 12, 2014 at the Gabrilove Hospice Inn at St. Peter’s Hospital in Albany.
Mark was born on August 17, 1963 at Margaretville Hospital to Roy and Deborah Cammer. He was a graduate of Roxbury Central School and an area contractor for more than 30 years. He married Andrea Munsell on August 27, 1988 at the Jay Gould Memorial Reformed Church.

Alice Maher

Alice C. Maher, 95, formerly of Grand Gorge, passed away on Monday, March 3, 2014 at A.O. Fox Comfort Care in Oneonta.
Alice was born January 1, 1919, the daughter of A. and Alice (Petit) Mc Henry, in Kearney, NJ.  She was married to Peter John Maher who predeceased her.
Originally of New York City, Alice moved to the area in 1966.  Her most recent employment was at Margaretville Hospital where she served for nine years.

Candace Backstrom

Candace “Candy” Staiger Backstrom, 67, of Roaring Brook Road, Highmount, died Sunday March 9, 2014 surrounded by her family at home. 
She was born June 30, 1946, a daughter of the late John and Mary Wright Staiger.  She was an Onteora High School graduate who served over 20 years as legal secretary to attorneys in Kingston including William Pretsch, Eli Basch, and Alfred Mainetti. 

Gloria Rolland

Roxbury resident Gloria C. Rolland passed away peacefully on March 7, 2014 at Mountainside Residential Care Center in Margaretville.
Gloria was born on November 1, 1926 in Brooklyn, the daughter of John and Mary (Mulligan) Iburg.
She graduated from Bushwick High School, also in Brooklyn. Gloria worked for the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company in New York City.  
She married Richard (Dick) Rolland on May 23, 1953 in Vestal. He predeceased her after 59 years of marriage on August 16, 2012.

Randall Peck

Randall V. Peck, 71, of Assumption, IL died Friday, Feb. 28, 2014 at home.
Randall was born July 1, 1942 in Phoenicia, the son of Charles and Genevieve (Barley) Peck. He was delivered at home by his father.
Randall attended grade school in a three-room schoolhouse in Phoenicia and finished at Onteora Central School.
Randall was drafted into the United States Army and during his time of service he received several medals including the Air Medal with 11th Oak leaf Cluster and V Device for Heroic actions above and beyond the call of duty.

Daisy Greenberg

Daisy Greenberg, 102, died Thursday, Feb. 27, 2014 at Mountainside Residential Care Center in Margaretville.
Daisy was born June 19, 1911 in Brooklyn, the daughter of Archie and Ida (Piven) Weinberg. She married Irvin Greenberg in June, 1931 in Brooklyn.
Daisy resided in Margaretville, Delhi, and Roxbury since 1992, coming back to New York from West Palm Beach, FL where she lived for 30 years.
