Flu shots will be available at Roxbury Central School clinic

Delhi — Delaware County Public Health will hold a free H1N1 Flu Shot and Nasal Mist Clinic for Delaware County residents only on Wednesday, Dec. 30 from 4 to 6 p.m. The clinic will be held at Roxbury Central School. The clinic is walk-in only; please do not call for an appointment.


Roxbury caroling Saturday; Holiday Cantata Sunday

Roxbury — A time-honored tradition that is forever new, the Holiday Cantata at the Gould Church on Sunday, Dec. 20 brings many sounds of the season, from traditional carols to ancient Celts, with spirituals and catchy Broadway songs to “tune” holiday spirit. You can create your own holiday cheer the evening before with community caroling in an old-fashioned horse drawn carriage along Roxbury’s Main Street on Dec. 19.


Andes hosts open house Saturday at new highway garage

Town of Andes officials will host a dedication and open house on Saturday, Dec. 19 at 4 p.m. to mark the completion of the town’s new highway garage. The garage, which is located on county Route 1 south of the hamlet of Andes, was built using grant and loan funds from the USDA’s Community Facilities program. The garage has been named the Harold C. Grommeck Town Highway Garage after the late Harold Grommeck, a former town board member, in recognition of his tireless work on behalf of the people of the Town of Andes.


Middletown scales back Transfer Station days of operation

The Town of Middletown will no longer operate its solid waste Transfer Station on Mondays, effective Jan. 4. The town board voted unanimously at its November meeting to cut Transfer Station operation to six days as a budget-cutting measure. The move is projected to save more than $14,000 in salary and benefit costs.


Route 28 is not named among unsafe roadways

The New York State Department of Transportation (DOT) has released a report listing the top five percent of unsafe state roads and according to the report none of the highways in Delaware or Ulster county, including Route 28, have made the list.


Couple "bowled" over by visit

New manager takes over at Hanah

Spring trial set for local woman in theft incidents

A Margaretville woman who is accused of stealing more than $21,000 from two people pled not guilty to the charges in a November 23 appearance in Delaware County Court.
Barbara B. Ackerley, 58, was arrested last June. She was charged with two counts of third-degree grand larceny. Ackerley is accused of taking the money from two elderly victims who had been in her care. Both of the theft victims reside in the Town of Middletown.


OCS ratifies teachers' deal after 17 months

The Onteora School District Board of Education unanimously ratified a new four-year teachers’ contract last week, officially ending a 17-month stretch during which the teachers went without one.
