Roxbury Sidewalk Fest on July 3 offers a full day of entertainment

Roxbury — The jam is on July 3 with two great bands appearing in Roxbury during the annual Sidewalk Festival.  With vintage baseball, fun summer ball park fare and barbecue, a street full of craft and tag sales, Roxbury is the perfect summer Saturday destination for the whole family on July 3, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.


Graduations Friday and Saturday for local high school students

The high school graduation season culminates this weekend, when Andes, Margaretville, Onteora and Roxbury central schools will hold their commencements on Friday and Saturday.


Tunament raises funds for graduates

The 10th annual Tunament, a fund-raising golf tournament, will be held on Friday, July 30 at Shephard Hills Golf Course in Roxbury. The Tunament is held in memory of Margaretville native Bill “Tuna” Sanford.


Freshtown grand opening this Friday

Freshtown of Margaretville will celebrate its grand opening on Friday, June 25 with free refreshments, food samples and other festivities. Tents will be set up in the parking lot for Friday’s grand opening and there will be many complimentary items offered to mark the occasion.


Andes to host byway meeting at town hall Thursday evening

Andes — This month’s meeting of the Central Catskills Collaborative will feature a presentation by the Town of Andes Byway Group. The collaborative invites the public to participate in the meeting, which will be held at the Andes Town Hall from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, June 24.


Help welcome for cemetery work

Arkville — The Historical Society of the Town of Middletown is seeking volunteers as it continues to repair the grounds of the Arkville Cemetery on the cutoff road. A workday is planned for Sunday, June 27 beginning at 1 p.m.


Reception Saturday at Chace-Randall for Cardillo's unique works on paper

Andes — The Chace-Randall Gallery presents new works by Rimer Cardillo. The show will hang from June 25 to August 8. The opening reception is Saturday, June 26 from 5 to 7 p.m. A world-renowned printmaker and installation artist, Rimer Cardillo’s work celebrates the ancient art of the woodcut, often fusing it with modern photographic technology.


Margaretville man honored for donating 298 pints of blood

Endicott — Margaretville resident Vincenzo Ammirato was honored by the Southern Tier Chapter of the American Red Cross as one of nine “Real Heroes” at the First Annual Heroes for the American Red Cross Breakfast held in Binghamton on June 10.


Several thousand visitors expected at Desiderata Festival near Roxbury

Desiderata Festival, an outdoor art, music, film and yoga event, will be held June 23 through 27 at Stone Tavern Farm in Roxbury. The event will include five days and four nights of on-site camping, multi-stage performances, film presentations, art exhibits and wellness projects. Based on similar festivals, the organizers estimate that 2,000 to 3,000 visitors will attend.


Deadline extended for Middletown Comprehensive Plan

The deadline for written comments on the Comprehensive Plan proposed for the Town of Middletown has been extended to July 1. The draft Comprehensive Plan is continuing to take shape following a public hearing held June 5. About 20 people attended the public hearing and others submitted written comments on the plan.
