March 5, 2008: Not just junk

in

To The Editor:

While we understand the emotions behind one Fleischmanns resident’s letter to the editor last week, we feel compelled to respond to the negative sentiments about our little village.

March 5, 2008: All's well...

in

To The Editor:

My compliments to the staff of Margaretville Memorial Hospital.
I went to the emergency room on February 1 with a severe headache and dizziness, not being sure if I had a sinus infection or a tooth abscess.

Feb. 13, 2008: Foul play

in

To The Editor:
I’d like to address two articles in last week’s Catskill.
The first being about the Dollar Store and the zoning issue. It seems to me that the people who want progress and economic development in Margaretville are the same people who want to stop it at every turn.

Feb. 13, 2008: Illegal contract

in

To The Editor:
I recently attended the second Shandaken Town Board meeting of the year conducted under the leadership of Peter DiSclafani which included a resolution to hire Ferrandino Associates, a Westchester County consultant, to prepare comments on behalf of the Town of Shandaken regarding the scoping document for the Belleayre Resort.

Feb. 13, 2008: Get the facts

in

To The Editor:
It has started early.‚ÄÇ The new Shandaken Town Board has‚ÄÇbeen in office barely a month and the over-blown attacks are already flying.‚ÄÇ The level of hostility at the February town board meeting was‚ÄÇreminiscent of another time in our not-too-distant past.‚ÄÇ

Feb. 13, 2008: It can happen

in

To The Editor:
Does any one remember that the right to hold private property is still considered a basic right in our society? Generally, as long as you don’t pollute the environment, bother or annoy anyone or your neighbors, and comply with local laws you’re supposed to be able to do just about anything you want to your property, within reason.

Feb. 13, 2008: More signatures

in

To The Editor:
This is in response to your recent article on the “more than 1,000 people” who have signed the Partners for Progress petition in support of the proposed resort.
Readers should also know that to date over 2,625 people have signed the petition to Governor Spitzer opposing the Belleayre resort in our region, including such luminaries as Pete Seeger and Leo Kottke.

Jan. 23, 2008: Preserve beauty

in

To The Editor:
Even those who profess a deep love of wild nature have an ambivalent relationship with Nature. “We all proclaim our love and respect for wild nature, and in the same breath we confess our firm attachment to values that inexorably demand the destruction of the last remnant of wilderness," wrote Thomas Merton in "The Wild Places" in 1968.

Jan. 23, 2008: Save the ridge

in

To The Editor:
I’d like to address a couple of points raised in recent letters (Jan. 9, 2008 edition) about the mega-resort issue. One resident asks:
“Save the mountain for who?”  Save the ridge for future generations, that’s who.

Jan. 23, 2008: Angels

in

To The Editor:

It was New Year’s Eve and my husband went out to get eggs and milk for breakfast. My sisters had come to spend the holiday with us and we were running out of supplies. It was 3:30 when he left.
