To The Editor:
As a trustee for the Village of Margaretville, I have sensed that many people have had a clouded perception of our actions surrounding the Eminent Domain Proceedings against Davis Holding Company, LLC. Please note that our actions were initiated after several failed attempts to negotiate long-term access for the village with Davis Holding Company, LLC, to the bulkhead structure and the Binnekill stream, two structures in which the village has records of ownership and maintenance for over 100 years.

I recently read an article in the paper pertaining to the flowers in Phoenicia for the summer and how SHARP was requesting $5,000 from the town for the flowers but was disappointed when they only got $2,000.

Did you know that the 2005 Energy Act provided the oil and gas industry with a loophole in federal law? Energy companies were exempted from clean water laws for the purposes of gas drilling! They are presently allowed to use dangerous chemicals in “fracking,” a process that uses powerful fluids to fracture rock underground.

Kathy Wilber, our mayor for the last five years, officially resigned for personal reasons as of the November village board meeting. Malcolm Becker, current deputy mayor, has agreed to fill the position of mayor until a new mayor is elected in the spring.

I must refute the genuine misunderstandings and/or malicious misinformation about the Belleayre Resort proposal in last week’s paper.

It seems that the realities of the economy have sunk in to everyone except the Belleayre Resort proponents.
Just as everyone else is reading about projects being halted in midstream as funding dries up, they are still dreaming of a bailout from New York State in the form of money to develop Highmount for mostly their own exclusive use.

I was born before radio, television, penicillin, flue shots, or the pill. There was no radar, credit cards, laser beams, ballpoint pens, computers, TV, dishwashers, clothes dryers, cell phones, frozen foods, or air conditioners and man hadn’t walked on the moon.
