Honor the Legion's good work

in

To the Editor:
Two weeks ago, Don Kearney wrote a letter to the editor outlining the contributions of the American Legion Post to our community and asked the community to help.  Hit hard by Hurricane Irene, the Legion Hall needs more help than what this small group of caretakers can provide.  His letter was a powerful and important reminder.

Boating problems on reservoir

in

To The Editor:
I was so delighted that recreational boating was coming and did come to the Pepacton Reservoir. I nourished sweet visions of sailing the same waters I had come to know through fishing. Imagine seeing pretty sailboats scurrying past these beautiful shores. But alas, there is good reason why only six sail boaters have applied for permits.

DEP rules require a boat to be at least 11-and-one-half-feet long. That’s pretty long and probably heavy, eh? Add in the sails, a mast, a boom, tiller and centerboard and that’s quite a load.

Seek some local advice

in

To The Editor:
First and foremost I want to recognize the MARK Project and especially its intrepid Executive Director Peg Ellsworth for the work she and MARK have done for our region. Without MARK and Peg many productive projects would not be funded, not get done and often not even thought of.
Having said that I do want to make an important point as to who should be involved in making important decisions when it comes to the ‘revitalization’ project that is now being initiated in some of our local hamlets.

Phil Finch was true original

in

To The Editor:
I am writing to let you folks “up there” know that a “close to the city” guy down here deeply mourns the passing of his good friend Phil Finch.

I met Phil 25 years ago when he and his son Nicky came to our place on Hardscrabble Road to talk about building us a pond. We don’t know what happened but we somehow connected and became instant buddies even though he was about 10 years older than me.

Putting cart where they belong

in

To The Editor:
It is a me world so I’m very, very happy that Freshtown is back. I’m happy to shop there. And most of all, I’m very happy to return my shopping cart to where it belongs.

American Legion needs help

Here's the Scoop: June 6, 2012

Having some down time
Did you ever get into one of those stretches where a new injury seemingly pops up everyday? I’m sort of in the midst (or, hopefully at the end) of one such run.

It began a few weeks back with my well-documented painful tooth issue (see dental procedure video on YouTube under the title Holycrapthishurts).

Lanza dismissal was warranted

in

To The Editor:
Having been previously employed at Belleayre Mountain (1998-2009 winter seasons), I can say from personal experience that it is no surprise that Mr. Lanza was dismissed. What disappoints me is the fact that it took so long. My personal feelings aside, and knowing of and witnessing some of the transgressions that have taken place; what I am most disturbed by is the so called blind support Mr. Lanza has from politicians, local businesses and customers.

No need to return carts

in

To The Editor:
Yes, I am indeed happy that Freshtown is back in town. But that does not mean I should be doing the work for which someone should be hired. Most other big box stores provide a central location in the parking lot for shopping cart return.
