The longtime town clerk in the Town of Shandaken was arrested last week following an alleged scuffle between her and the deputy town clerk in the town’s offices in Allaben. Laurilyn Frasier, 59, of Phoenicia, was arrested on Tuesday, July 20 after a complaint was made to the Ulster County Sheriff’s office that Frasier had pushed her deputy, Jacqui Gugleilmetti.

The industrious beaver, that cute and usually docile furry rodent, which also happens to be the official New York State animal, took on a new persona in the Catskill Region last week after at least one of the critters attacked and bit two swimmers along the Esopus Creek in Shandaken.

Following a 911 call, New York State Police in Kingston along with the Town of Shandaken Police responded to a domestic dispute at Silver Hollow Cabins on Route 214 in Phoenicia Monday morning.

Police say they were responding to a report that a 20-year-old female was reportedly assaulted in one of the cabins and forcefully dragged off into the woods. A search was conducted with K-9 units and a state police helicopter.

Shandaken — It’s the new scene in Shandaken. This little town in the high peaks of the Catskills is fast becoming an alternative to the crowds of Woodstock and Hudson. 

Shandaken —The membership of the Catskill Heritage Alliance elected Roger Wall as chair at the group’s annual meeting on June 26. Wall succeeds Rich Schaedle, who had held the post for four years. He pledged to continue the CHA’s core mission—“speaking out for the environment and the hamlets.”

Last Tuesday afternoon Shandaken Supervisor Rob Stanley was hopeful that the process of preparing a new farm stand law would move forward later in the evening when the town board was scheduled to meet with the planning board to try and hammer out something that would allow larger enterprises of this type in Shandaken.
By the time the meeting was half over it was clear that his hopes would be dashed.

Shandaken Town Councilman Jack Jordan has. Jordan, a Pine Hill resident and the town’s point man tasked with trying to increase cellular phone service in town, plans on making a note of the incident, and he wants others to do the same.

Shandaken — The long held and popular tradition of an annual metal pick up by the Shandaken Highway Department is once again upon us.

It remains unclear whether much paving will occur on Shandaken’s roads this year.
As paving crews blaze westward on the state-owned Route 28 this week, Shandaken Highway Superintendent Eric Hofmeister said that putting pavement on any local roads is on hold.

With only a handful of spectators present, as compared to previous pubic standoffs on the issue, Shandaken officials gathered last Tuesday to try and hash out what to do about the farmstand fracas that has plagued the community for several years.
