Few Delaware races for November elections

All supervisors in local townships will be running for re-election without opposition in November balloting unless Independent candidates emerge.
The deadline for filing party-affiliated petitions with the Delaware County Board Elections was July 17. Candidates running on an Independent line have until August 18 to file petitions to have their names placed on the ballot.


Woodchuck Lodge tours Aug. 1 & 2

Roxbury — Woodchuck Lodge, the rustic Roxbury farmhouse where literary naturalist John Burroughs (1837-1921) spent summers during the final 10 years of his life, will be open for guided tours from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 1 and 2.


Luminous exhibits will open at RAG

Roxbury — Two luminous exhibits by area artists Nat Thomas and Yale Epstein will open in the galleries of The Roxbury Arts Group on July 25 and continue through August 22. An opening reception for both exhibits will be held on July 25 from 2-4 p.m.


9th Annual Tunament

FUN FOR A GOOD CAUSE — The Ninth Annual Tunament Golf Tournament, named after the late Bill “Tuna” Sanford was held Friday at Shephard Hills Golf Course in Roxbury. The annual event raises money to fund a scholarship for Margaretville Central School graduates in memory of Bill Sanford.


Classical Jam to play at OSBC

Denver — Classical Jam, a vibrant ensemble best known for its engaging and lively presentations for today’s contemporary audiences, thought provoking concert themes, and wide-ranging repertoire from Renaissance dance music and traditional classical works, will perform at the Old School Baptist Church in the Denver Valley on Sunday, July 26 at 2 p.m.


Grand Gorge woman has MVCC degree

Melissa M. Pasiecnik of Grand Gorge, daughter of Christine and Stan Thorington and Philip and Jackie Pasiecnik, is a 2003 graduate of Roxbury Central School and a 2006 graduate of Mohawk Valley Community College with a certificate in photography and graphic communication.


Lindon Morse

Lindon (Lindy) B. Morse, 94, of Main Street, Roxbury, passed away Monday, July 13, 2009 in Roxbury.
He was born February 17, 1915 in the Town of Roxbury, the youngest of seven children of Chauncey F. and Annie Dent Morse.

Vincent and Anne Snyder, Tamara Snyder and Aaron Titch attended the surprise 50th birthday party for Dale Liddle, a former area resident, at Gum Spring, Virginia last weekend. To conceal the real purpose of their trip, they called to say they would be going to Florida and would stop by on their way down. It was a poolside party on their seven-acre property with approximately 100 guests present.

“Tablecloths,” a Roxbury Arts Group fund-raiser. will be held at noon on Saturday, July 11 on the lawn of the Old School Baptist Church on the Denver-Vega Road. The event includes music by the Horseshoe Lounge Playboys, a chicken barbecue and an auction of vintage tablecloths. Admission is $20. At 2:30 p.m. the Roxbury Nine opposes the Brooklyn Atlantics in a vintage baseball game on site.


Art funds available in Delaware County

The Roxbury Arts Group has announced that funding is available for 2010 through the New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA) Decentralization program administered in Delaware County by RAG. Grants in amounts of $500 to $5,000 are available to not-for-profit organizations in Delaware County or to individual artists who are sponsored by a not-for-profit organization for arts projects that take place in 2010 and are open to the general public.
