Tuesday Forum program listed at Roxbury Library

Roxbury — On Tuesday, Nov. 10 at 1 p.m. the Roxbury Library Association will host an RLA Tuesday Forum program focusing on speaker Olive Van Aken’s June 2008 trip to Russia. Van Aken will augment her program with a slide presentation.


Missionary speaker visits Gould Church Nov. 1

Roxbury — The Jay Gould Memorial Reformed Church will welcome Ernie and Linda Shultis to their 10 a.m. Worship Service this Sunday, Nov. 1.


Photo contest winners named

Roxbury — Albert Verdesca’s poster-size photo “Musee d’Orsay, Paris” received the Judge’s Choice award in The Roxbury Arts Group’s annual photo show and competition. The award was made during the opening reception of the exhibit of over 100 photographs on Oct. 17. The show will remain open through Oct. 31.


Handful of key town posts up for election next Tuesday

Area voters head to the polls next Tuesday, Nov. 3 to cast their ballots in a number of local races.
Contested races in the News’ coverage area include two seats on the Andes Town Council, the position of Bovina Superintendent of Highways, two seats on the Middletown Town Council, and the position of the Roxbury Tax Collector.
Profiles of each of the candidates on the ballot to fill these positions follow.

The annual Election Day chicken and biscuit dinner will be held at the United Methodist Church in Roxbury Tuesday, Nov. 3. Takeouts will be available from 4:15-5 p.m. with the dinner at 5 to 7 p.m. Adults $9; ages 5-12 $5 and under five free.


Delaware Soccer League All Stars named

The Daily Star announced its Delaware League Soccer Girls' and Boys' All-Stars at the league crossover games in Oneonta on Sunday. The 2009 All-Star selections are as follows.


Budgets unveiled by local townships

Local towns have submitted preliminary budgets for the coming year, and public hearings will be held next week in Andes, Middletown and Roxbury to discuss the budgets and hear feedback from members of the public.


Manhattan Country School goes solar to supply electricity for Roxbury farm

Roxbury — Thirty-six Manhattan Country School students gathered on Sept. 30 with their teachers and representatives from collaborating organizations to dedicate the 14 very large solar panels that will produce 24,000 watts of electricity for the farm.
