Roxbury boys advance to Stamford Cup finals

Spirits are soaring in Roxbury. The Rockets boys’ soccer team beat Davenport and Schenevus last week to advance to the Mayor’s Cup championship game. Roxbury will try to dethrone defending champion South Kortright Saturday night at Archibald Stadium in Stamford.


RLA hosts potluck luncheon

Roxbury — The Roxbury Library Association will open the 2011-’12 RLA Tuesday Forum season with a potluck luncheon at the Roxbury Library on Tuesday, Sept. 13 at noon.

RLA Tuesday Forum Coordinator Julia A. Menne cordially requests that all potluck luncheon attendees bring a dish to pass, as well as a place setting. The Roxbury Library Association welcomes the public to all RLA Tuesday Forum programs, activities, and gatherings, which are free of charge.


WIOX Bluegrass Festival at Stone Tavern

Roxbury —The sounds of mountain music will be filling the airwaves of Meeker Hollow in Roxbury from Friday, Aug. 26 to Sunday, Aug. 28 as Stone Tavern Farm and Roxbury’s radio station, WIOX, present the Roxbury Bluegrass Festival.


RAG artists brush up for Whet Paint

Roxbury — The Roxbury Arts Group (RAG) will hold a reception on Saturday, Sept. 3 from 4-6 p.m. to celebrate Whet Paint 2011, “Capture the Catskills in a Plein Air Painting,” at the Walt Meade Gallery, Roxbury Art Center, 5025 Vega Mountain Road in Roxbury.


Local bands play Roxbury Music Festival

More than a year after the controversial Desiderata Festival was held at Stone Tavern Farm in Roxbury, owners John and Danielle Burrows are preparing for this weekend’s debut of the Roxbury Bluegrass Festival at their 400-acre horse farm.

John Burrows explained that Desiderata, which drew noise complaints from town residents, is a thing of the past.


Roxbury Constable Williamson back on the job

Town of Roxbury Constable Steve Williamson was back on the job on Monday, eight days after he suffered a stroke and was airlifted to Bassett Medical Center in Cooperstown. It didn’t take long for both his doctors and his family to realize that the 63-year-old constable was well on his way to recovery.

Elna Hinkley has returned home after spending a week at Mamaroneck in Westchester County visiting Mr. and Mrs. Anthony Iacovelli and family. While there they visited the Botanical Gardens in the Bronx.
George and Julia Brower visited his sisters, Nancy and Joan Brower, in Albany Wednesday, Aug. 3 which was his birthday. They celebrated George’s 85th birthday by going out for dinner.


RCS Alumni banquet at Plattekill

The Annual Roxbury Alumni Banquet was held on July 16, 2011 at Plattekill Ski Center with 53 attending, which included 34 alumni and 19 guests..
The delicious buffet was catered by the staff at Plattekill, and sky rides were offered and enjoyed by several.

President Lorrayne Bolger welcomed the alumni and guests and brought the meeting together by thanking everyone who helped make this event a success.


Man arrested for 2009 Roxbury robbery

A 42-year-old Grand Gorge resident was arrested August 3 on charges stemming from an armed robbery at a Roxbury convenience store in 2009. Douglas G. Cronk was arrested on a charge of first-degree robbery as a result of a lengthy investigation into an armed robbery that occurred on March 2, 2009 at the Roxbury Country Store on Main Street

On Wednesday, August 3, 2011, The New York State Police at Margaretville arrested Douglas G. Cronk, 42, of Grand Gorge, for Robbery 1st Degree.
