Actors, male and female, teen and adult, are needed for two Open Eye Theater productions this summer:  “As You Like It” by William Shakespeare, performing July 16 through 27, and “Summertree” by Ron Cowen, performing August 20 through 31.

It’s amazing how two early season victories can boost a team’s confidence.  That’s the case in Margaretville where the girls’ softball team has broken from the gates with back-to-back victories.  The Margaretville coaching staff hopes to use the fast start to help build team confidence and cohesion.

The owners of a vacant parcel at the entrance to Margaretville are offering the property for sale. 

The Sidney-based Mirabito Fuel Group has owned the Bridge Street property since the early 1990s, since purchasing the Margaretville Service Station. The business was destroyed by flooding in January 1996.

Joan Lawrence-Bauer, executive director of the MARK Group since 2004, will leave that agency in May to become the public relations director for the Emerson Resort and the Belleayre Resort according to officials at both organizations.‚ÄÇ
Crossroads Ventures (CRV) Managing Partner Dean L. Gitter announced this week that Paul Rakov, who has served as the company’s spokesperson since 2005, will be leaving for a post with a New York City PR firm that specializes in luxury travel. Gitter said Rakov had performed ably in a difficult post and was able to use his experience at the local resort to make a major advance in his PR career.

Store running in temporary quarters after March 5 fire

The owner of Brookside Hardware in Margaretville, which was destroyed by fire on March 5, hopes a new store will be operational in a few months.
Will Finch told the News this week that he is awaiting signed building plans from an architect for a new store and warehouse. He said he has a contractor lined up and is hopeful that the new buildings can be completed in about 60 days. Even if that timeline is not met, “it will definitely be done this summer.”

Coldwell Banker Timberland Properties, with offices in Delhi and Margaretville, has been named the Number One Office for Coldwell Banker offices of its size in the Northern Region in 2007. This region includes 19 states from Massachusetts to Minnesota and from Maine to Maryland and over 1,000 offices.

At Middletown hall through end of May

Back in the days before electric appliances did most of the work of slicing, chopping and dicing, the well-equipped kitchen contained a variety of hand-forged‚ÄÇchoppers, or chopping knives. Fran Faulkner of New Kingston has placed some of these unusual implements on display at the Middletown Town Hall on Route 28 between Margaretville and Arkville.

It’s been said that out numbers 19, 20 and 21 are the three toughest in a softball game. That was the case at Roxbury last Thursday night. Margaretville rallied to score three times in the final inning, squeezing past the Rockets, 6-4, in the home opener for both teams.

Twenty-five works by Halcottsville artist Alix Hallman Travis are on display through July 10 at the offices of the Catskill Watershed Corporation (CWC) in Margaretville.

Margaretville Central School elementary school students are taking steps to end “bullying” incidents.
A group of students in the Peer Mediation group has addressed bullying incidents in the third, fifth and sixth grades with the help of a prepared video.
