Local ski teams compete at Plattekill, Windham

Boys’ varsity skiers from Roxbury Central School took three of the top seven places at Friday’s giant slalom competition at Plattekill Mountain. Garret Hinkley, Nate Liddle and Alex Riordan finished fifth, sixth and seventh, respectively, with times of 28.84, 29.18 and 29.86.

Girls' basketball teams battle as they face top-tier league competition

The Margaretville girls’ varsity basketball team played host to the Rams of South Kortright on Thursday night in a game rescheduled due to inclement weather. The host Blue Devils (5-3, 2-3) fell to the Rams 44-22.


Margaretville Mayor Stanton stepping down after six years

After serving as mayor of Margaretville for six years, Bill Stanton has announced that he will not be seeking a fourth term.
The position of mayor will be on the ballot in the village’s March election, as will two seats on the Village of Margaretville Board of Trustees. Trustees Iris Mead and John VanBenschoten will be up for re-election in the March 18 election.


A&P is closing doors next week; Freshtown aims for Feb. opening

Margaretville —  Shoppers found shelves at the Margaretville A & P virtually empty over the holiday weekend as the Bridge Street grocery store prepares to close, making way for a new Freshtown scheduled to open by early February.

Art in Common entertainment planned at Commons

Margaretville — Wendy Nief, popular local songstress of jazz, blues and pop standards, will be performing 4:30-6:30 p.m. at the Commons Building on Main Street, Margaretville on Saturday, Jan. 17.


Philip Mehl named Mountainside director

Edmond Morache, CEO of Margaretville Hospital and Mountainside Residential Care Center has appointed Philip Mehl as administrator of Mountainside, effective Jan. 1.
Mr. Mehl has served as Mountainside’s assistant administrator for nearly two years. He completed the requirements to become a certified administrator this fall.
