The Catskill Mountain Artisans’ Guild (Catsguild) will celebrate the grand opening of its new gallery with a gala open-house event on Sunday, Oct. 12, at the Commons Building on Main Street. Wine and hors d’oeuvres will be served, many of the 40 craftsmen and fine artists represented by the guild will be on hand and those who visit may enter a free raffle for door prizes donated by the artists themselves.

For the first time in its almost 100-year existence, St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church of Margaretville will be visited by the presiding Bishop of the Albany Episcopal Diocese, Bishop William Love. Bishop Bill will hold High Holy Mass at St. Margaret’s on Sunday, Sept. 28 at 11:30 a.m. The event is open to the public and all are invited to join in the potluck lunch immediately following the service.

Oscar Wilde’s classic novel of obsession and terror, “The Picture of Dorian Gray” gets a fresh and exciting twist in Vernon Bauer’s new one-man show, coming to the Catskills for a two-night engagement just in time for Halloween. The show, titled simply “Dorian Gray,” is being presented as part of The Open Eye Artist Showcase Series and will be performed at The Open Eye Theater in Margaretville on Friday, Oct. 24 and Saturday, Oct. 25 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 and reservations can be made after October 17 by calling 586-1660.

Bob Connelly, a nationally recognized antiques appraiser and auctioneer, will provide verbal appraisals of antiques for visitors to the sixth annual Margaretville Cauliflower Festival Saturday, Sept. 27 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the history tent. A fee of $4, or $10 for three items, will be charged, with proceeds going to the Historical Society of the Town of Middletown.

The second annual Holiday Treasure Express, a community-wide holiday celebration and “shop local” campaign, makes its return this year with a brand new twist. A major parade up Margaretville’s Main Street, with bands, floats, antique cars, and lots of other surprises has been scheduled for November 29 (the Saturday after Thanksgiving) to kick off the season-long event.

Jumping frogs, rumbling tractors, a barrel train and a mystifying magical performance will add to the fun at the Sixth Annual Margaretville Cauliflower Festival Saturday, Sept. 27 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the village park. The event is free and is held rain or shine. It is sponsored by the Greater Margaretville Chamber of Commerce.
