Margaretville girls clinch spot in sectional play

Jenna Johnston led Roxbury with seven points when the Roxbury Rockets hosted the visiting Rams of South Kortright on Wednesday night. The Rockets (2-12, 1-10) dropped a harsh 57-19 game to the Rams.


Andes, Roxbury boys secure spots in sectionals

Roxbury’s Ryan Skipper and DaVaun Morgan tallied seven points apiece in the opening quarter of Thursday’s home game against Jefferson to set the pace for the Rockets in a win that qualified them for sectional play. Skipper led the Rockets with a game- and season-high of 30 points, which included 13 field goals, a three-pointer and three points from the foul line.


Art in Common heating up winter

“Art in Common” multi-art events keep the Margaretville Commons building abuzz every Saturday afternoon and evening with art, activities, shopping and socializing. Two important causes are now the worthy recipients of retail space upstairs in the Commons during these events, donated by the Commons building.


Broadway star boosts Open Eye

In honor of Valentine’s Day, Broadway singer, Jenn Gambatese, got the audience in the mood for love at The Open Eye Theater on Saturday night.
With her husband, Curtis Cregan operating the background music, Gambatese’s powerful voice filled the auditorium with songs of love: discovering it, feeling it, searching for it, losing it, and daring to believe in it again.


Youth Theater Workshop set in Margaretville

The Open Eye Theater, 960 Main Street, Margaretville, is offering a Youth Theater Workshop for children ages 8 – 13 on Saturday, Feb. 21 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The workshop will consist of creative movement, improvisation, theater games, scene writing, scene work and more. The required reservation deadline is Feb. 18.


Mayoral posts up for election in Margaretville, Fleischmanns

The position of mayor will be on the ballot in the villages of Margaretville and Fleischmanns in the March 18 election. Current Margaretville Mayor Bill Stanton announced last month that he would not be seeking a fourth term.


Freshtown Market opens doors; total store makeover will follow

Margaretville — The new Freshtown of Margaretville opened its doors for business last Wednesday, just 13 days after its owners took possession of the former A&P grocery store site on Bridge Street in the village.


Auxiliary Thrift Shop moving in Margaretville

The Auxiliary of Margaretville Hospital and Mountainside Residential Care Center will soon be moving its Thrift Shop to 850 Main Street, Margaretville.
The Thrift Shop will be relocating by mid-February to a building owned by Peter Neumann. The structure was completed renovated several years ago after being utilized for a long time as a warehouse for a plumbing store across the street.


Evening of dining, dancing planned at Open Eye Theater

Margaretville — Broadway singers Jenn Gambatese (“Tarzan”), Curtis Cregan (“Rent”) and musical director Brian Taylor (“Mary Poppins”) will provide an evening of songs to dine and dance to on February 7 at 7 p.m., at The Open Eye Theater, 960 Main Street, Margaretville.


Charlotte Valley boys' team outlasts ACS Mountaineers

The Andes Mountaineers moved to 8-7 overall and 4-7 in the league following an 89-47 defeat at the hands of the Charlotte Valley boys on Thursday.
“We knew we were going to have a tough time going in,” said Andes Head Coach John Bernhardt. “But we did well for a long time.”
