"Blithe Spirit" on stage at MCS this weekend

Margaretville — The Margaretville Central School Scitamard Society will present Noel Coward’s 1941 comedy “Blithe Spirit” this Friday and Saturday, Nov. 7 and 8 at 7 p.m. in the old gym. Tickets are $5 for adults and $2 for students grades 5-12 and senior citizens. Children may attend the performance free.


Fine crafts showcased Saturday at "Art in Common"

Fine craft artists will be center stage demonstrating various traditional crafts on Saturday, Nov. 7 from 3-5 p.m, in the Commons Building on Main Street Margaretville as part of the multi-arts “Art in Common” fall events collaboration.


Habitat for Humanity to assist fire victims

Habitat for Humanity has announced a partnership with Margaretville Central School teacher Shana Eaglefeathers to build a home for her and her five children. The family lost all of its possessions when its Bovina mobile home was destroyed in a fire on Sept. 24. The children range in age from 14 to four.


Margaretville girls top H-T before falling in sectional play

The Margaretville girls, who entered the postseason seeded 10th following an 8-7 regular season, faced the host Wildcats of Hunter-Tannersville in the opening round match-up last Tuesday. It marked the second meeting between the two teams this season; the Blue Devils posted a 4-1 regular season win over Hunter in mid-September.


Margaretville Auxiliary holiday fair is Nov. 14

Margaretville — The Auxiliary of Margaretville Hospital and Mountainside Residential Care Center will hold its annual Holiday Fair on Saturday, Nov. 14 from 10 a.m.-3:30 p.m. at Mountainside.


Blue Devils top Rams for Delaware title

Once again, it was the third time that did it for the Margaretville Blue Devils, who defeated the rival South Kortright Rams 2-1 to claim the Delaware League title at the National Soccer Hall of Fame complex in Oneonta. The crossover game was played Sunday when heavy rain washed out the contest originally scheduled for Saturday.

The Daily Star announced its Delaware League Soccer Girls' and Boys' All-Stars at the league crossover games in Oneonta on Sunday. The 2009 All-Star selections are as follows.


Handful of key town posts up for election next Tuesday

Area voters head to the polls next Tuesday, Nov. 3 to cast their ballots in a number of local races.
Contested races in the News’ coverage area include two seats on the Andes Town Council, the position of Bovina Superintendent of Highways, two seats on the Middletown Town Council, and the position of the Roxbury Tax Collector.
Profiles of each of the candidates on the ballot to fill these positions follow.


Former Margaretville resident indicted in N.J. kidnapping case

A former Margaretville man was indicted last week by a state grand jury in Monmouth County, N.J., on charges stemming from his attempting kidnapping of a man he believed was the boyfriend of his ex-girlfriend. Thomas A. Filupeit, 53, was charged in the four-count indictment that included attempted kidnapping, attempted burglary, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and unlawful possession of a weapon.


Soccer teams gear up for sectionals; MCS boys to clash with SK in Crossover

Three in, two out, and the fate of one was hanging in the balance Monday, as area soccer teams awaited the release of the sectional match-ups.
The Margaretville boys and girls and the Andes boys’ soccer teams all qualified outright for sectional play, while the Andes girls’ squad awaited a decision by the ACS administration as to whether or not they would be allowed to advance to postseason play.
