Cemetery work to be discussed this Saturday

Margaretville — A meeting of Friends of Middletown Cemeteries will be held Saturday, March 14 at 10 a.m. in the Community Room of Fairview Public Library, 43 Walnut St., Margaretville. The discussion will include inventory and restoration projects for 2009.


Summer camp for seniors is topic of talk

A new “camp for seniors” will be the featured topic at the March 12, 10 a.m. meeting Auxiliary of Margaretville Hospital and Mountainside Residential Care Center. Tom Briggs, director of the Delaware County Office of the Aging, will speak about the 4C Camp for Adults to be held at 4-H Camp Shankitunk in Delhi from August 28 to 30.


MCS hosts soccer tourney this weekend

Margaretville — The MCS Booster Club will host their sixth annual indoor soccer tournament at Margaretville Central School on Friday evening, March 13 and all day Saturday, March 14.
The tournament will include 44 teams divided into four age groups. This year the tournament is being expanded with more teams in the grades 6-8 bracket, which will be on Friday evening starting at 5:30 p.m.


MRCC nurses certified in wound care

Margaretville — Two nurses at Mountainside Residential Care Center in Margaretville have recently received Wound Care Certification. Susan Cole, RN, and Diana Briggs, LPN, completed their training in December in Niagara Falls given by the Wound Care Education Institute. They are the only Wound Care Certified nurses in Delaware County.


Heated races for mayor and trustee positions in Margaretville

Voters in Margaretville will go to the polls next Wednesday to cast their ballots in the mayoral election for the village, as well as to fill two seats on the board of trustees.
In the mayoral election, voters will have a choice between John VanBenschoten, who has served as a village trustee for the past four years, and Carol O’Beirne, the executive director of the Central Catskills Chamber of Commerce. Current Margaretville Mayor Bill Stanton announced in January that he would not be seeking another term.


Newscasters will be featured at CWN program

The Catskill Women’s Network will meet at Casey Joe’s Coffeehouse at the intersection of county Route 38 and Route 28 in Arkville on Monday, March 9 with a social hour at 5:30 p.m. and potluck dinner at 6:30 p.m.

Featured speakers will be Joe Moskowitz and Pauline Liu who will be talking about their experiences in radio and television broadcasting. Bring a dish to pass.

Auxiliary Dance-a-Thon tickets now available

The third annual Margaretville Hospital Dance-a-Thon benefit, hosted by the Hospital Auxiliary, will be held at Belleayre Ski Center’s Upper Lodge on Saturday, April 18 at 7 p.m. This year, for the first time, the event will feature live music from Blues Maneuver. Country line dancers Rose and Gordy Stahl and professional swing dance teacher, Kyla Marion will be back to demonstrate new steps.


Hospital squad has 3 new paramedics

Margaretville — Three ambulance squad members at Margaretville Hospital have recently earned certification as paramedics. Completing the bridge program from registered nurse to paramedic were Nora Todd, Sharon Gavette and Mike Sarubbi.
