Ricky Skaggs and Kentucky Thunder plus fireworks show at Belleayre July 3

Highmount – The Belleayre Music Festival will color Independence Weekend “Red, White and Bluegrass” when Ricky Skaggs and Kentucky Thunder showcase their amazing repertoire on Saturday, July 3 at 8 p.m., followed by fireworks. Fourteen-time Grammy Award winner Ricky Skaggs returns to Belleayre in what promises to be a rousing holiday weekend showcase.


Belleayre supporters irked by Mt. Snow stimulus funds

Recent news that Mount Snow Ski Center in Vermont is getting $25 million in federal stimulus funds has opened old wounds for the Coalition to Save Belleayre. It was the winter of 2009 when the coalition wanted federal economic stimulus funds to be used at the state-owned Belleayre Mountain Ski Center.


Belleayre Music Festival hosts BBQ, dance and auction May 30

Highmount — The Belleayre Music Festival is kicking off its 19th summer season with a BBQ Dinner Dance and Benefit Auction, featuring the music of Special Delivery, on Sunday, May 30. The evening will begin at 5 p.m. with the silent auction viewing and a cocktail reception, wine and refreshments provided by the Board of Directors of the Belleayre Conservatory.


Auxiliary's Spring Fling May 15 at Belleayre Mountain

Highmount — The Auxiliary of Margaretville Hospital and Mountainside Residential Care Center Auxiliary has announced the date of its annual spring dance. The Spring Fling, formerly known as the Dance-a-Thon, will be held Saturday, May 15 at 6 p.m. at Belleayre Mountain’s Overlook Lodge.


Belleayre Mountain closes after a great season

Despite having plenty of skiable snow left, Belleayre Mountain Ski Center closed down its 2009-2010 season on Sunday. Superintendent Tony Lanza said that several factors, including a couple of late-season monster snowstorms, contributed to this being a season to remember.


Belleayre welcomes new Hall of Fame inductees

The fourth-annual Belleayre Mountain Hall of Fame celebration was held in the ski center’s main lodge Saturday evening. The Belleayre Mountain Hall of Fame was created in 2006 to honor individuals who have contributed in extraordinary ways to Belleayre Mountain, the surrounding Catskill Region, and to the athletic discipline of snow sports.


New winners crowned in Pine Hill Arms-Belleayre Triathlon

Pine Hill — More than 100 athletes entered the 18th Pine Hill Arms-Belleayre Triathlon this past Saturday representing five states. The ski portion of the race started at the top of Belleayre Mountain and finished at the lower lodge where the biking portion began with a climb to the top of Belleayre Village.


Crossroads unveils new resort plans; lodging units and profile are reduced

Dean Gitter, the mastermind behind the proposed Belleayre Resort at Catskill Park, unveiled last week an architectural rendering of the latest plans for the project. This represents the most recent and perhaps last of several transformations made to the plan, first announced and under review since 1999.


Belleayre Mountain layoffs earlier, heavier than usual

No fewer than 59 people lost their jobs at Belleayre Mountain Ski Center Sunday, the state-owned facility at Highmount in the Ulster County Town of Shandaken. On Monday Belleayre’s Superintendent Tony Lanza attempted to downplay the layoffs, saying they happen every year late in the ski season.


O'Connor Foundation honored at 24th annual Snowball event

Highmount — The A. Lindsey and Olive B. O’Connor Foundation was honored for its long history of charitable work at the 24th annual Snowball held Saturday at Belleayre Mountain. Charlotte Hill, vice chair of The O’Connor Foundation, accepted the Spirit of the Catskills Award from Coalition to Save Belleayre Chairman Joe Kelly.
