Broadway weekend features "Cast Party" and Tommy Tune

Highmount — The Roxbury Arts Group (RAG) and The Belleayre Music Festival, two of the area’s most eminent arts presenters, have joined in a first -time innovative col- laboration to present a very special weekend of music and razzle-dazzle.
On Friday, July 8, Jim Caruso’s Cast Party will bring a heady collection of Broadway luminaries and local stars to perform at the Lodge at Belleayre at 8 p.m. On Saturday, July 9, at 8 p.m., Broadway’s legendary nine-time Tony Award-winning song and dance man, Tommy Tune, hits the Belleayre tent stage with the Manhattan Rhythm Kings.

k. d. lang opens Belleayre's 20th season on Sunday

k.d. lang and The Siss Boom Bang with special guests The Belle Brigade will perfomr on Sunday, July 3 at 8 p.m. at the Belleayre Music Festival on Route 28, Highmount.
k.d. has carved a stellar career and her new release, “Sing It Loud” is racing up the charts. Tony Bennett called her, “The best singer of her generation.

Belleayre Conservatory hosts benefit auction

Highmount — Belleayre Conservatory, the not- for-profit organization that annually presents the renown Belleayre Music Festival, is kicking off its gala 20th anniversary summer season with a barbecue dinner dance, featuring the music of Special Delivery, on Sunday, May 29. In celebration of Catskill arts and crafts, live and silent auctions will celebrate sports and arts and crafts of the Catskills.

The evening will begin at 5 p.m. with the silent auction viewing and a cocktail reception, wine and refreshments provided by the Board of Directors of the Belleayre Conservatory.

Mobile cancer screening offered

Highmount — Bassett Hospital’s Mobile Cancer Screening coach will be located at the base of Belleayre Mountain Ski Center on Wednesday, April 27 from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. in the parking lot across from the Highmount Post Office.

The free service is made available by the Delaware, Otsego and Schoharie County’s Cancer Services Program and will offer free mammograms, breast exams, pap tests and pelvic exams to uninsured women 40 and older. Free colorectal cancer screening take-home kits will be made available to uninsured men and women 50 and older. Info: 888 345-0225.

Belleayre rally snowed out

The threat of, and then the appearance of, a major winter storm on Monday put a freeze on plans to hold a support rally for Belleayre Mountain Ski Center and its employees. The rally will now be held at noon on Friday.

'Don't mess with Belleayre' rally planned for Monday

Congressman Maurice Hinchey will join members of the Coalition to Save Belleayre at a “Don’t Mess With Belleayre” rally on Monday, Dec. 27.  The noon event announced this week by Coalition Chair Joe Kelly will be held at the intersection of Rt. 28 and county Road 47 (also known as the access road to Belleayre) to continue protesting the cut of 48 permanent staff positions at the ski center.

Oktoberfest once again a big hit

October 16 was a rainy, blustery and chilly Saturday morning. It was definitely not the kind of weather you want to have for an Oktoberfest.  But dreary skies didn’t stop a large crowd from coming to Belleayre’s Discovery Lodge that day for the German-American Club of the Northern Catskills’ 11th annual Oktoberfest.

Belleayre free skiing for seniors may be cut

State Senator John J. Bonacic, who represents much of Delaware and Ulster counties, has joined with the Ulster County Chamber of Commerce to ask the State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) not to end free skiing for seniors over the age of 70 at Belleayre Mountain Ski Center. 

Fall Festival at Belleayre

Highmount — There’s a chill in the air and the leaves are turning, so that means one thing. Belleayre is continuing preparations for the 31st Annual Fall Festival and Craft Fair on Columbus Day Weekend, October 9 and 10.
