Alta hosting open house with tours, prizes June 19

Halcottsville — Alta Log Homes in Halcottsville will host a factory tour and open house on Saturday, June 19 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Anyone attending the open house can register in a drawing for door prizes such as gift certificates for Woodstock Harley-Davidson, Hanah Mountain Resort Country Club in Margaretville and Hudson Valley Cycle Center.


School kids give lesson on wellness; eating healthy, having fun emphasized

Halcottsville — Students from Margaretville, Andes and Roxbury Central schools presented demonstrations and exhibitions based on the theme “Kids Healthy Living: Eating Healthy and Having Fun!” at the Pakatakan Farmers’ Market on Saturday.


Farmers' market 19th year gets underway this Saturday

Halcottsville — The Pakatakan Farmers’ Market at the historic Round Barn in Halcottsville will open for its 19th season on Saturday, May 22 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The market is open each Saturday through Columbus Day Weekend and admission is free. Approximately 35 to 40 vendors will be on hand each week providing a shopping smorgasbord of goods either grown or handmade in the region.


Gardening series continues May 15 at Kelly gardens

Halcottsville — The Catskill Community Garden Club presents a Spring series designed to help anyone become a gardener called “See How it’s Done.” The series will include gardening tips from local gardeners presented in their gardens.


New co-pastor will be installed Sunday

Halcottsville — The Reverend Linda L. Wilson, FCR will be installed as Co-Pastor of Holy Innocents Cathedral Church in Halcottsville in a ceremony to take place at 10 a.m. on Sunday May 2. The public is invited to attend.


Energy-saving light bulbs offered to vistors at Alta

Halcottsville – Alta Log Homes is offering a free energy-saver light bulb to anyone visiting its models in Halcottsville and Kingston on Earth Day, April 22.

Alta, which is recognized as a leader in “green” building, is trying to enhance environmental awareness with the light bulb promotion. Each visiting family will receive one light bulb.


Halcott Center man dies after fire call

A 52-year-old Halcott Center resident died April 2 of an apparent heart attack shortly after firefighters extinguished a brush fire on his property. John D. Bammel was pronounced dead at Margaretville Hospital after he was transported there by emergency personnel.

Historic Halcottsville Creamery heavily damaged by snowstorm

The historic Halcottsville Creamery building was among the victims of record snowfall totals from February 23 and 25 storms that wreaked havoc on the area. Owners Jim and Susan Kelly traveled from New York City to the Catskills two days after the successive snowfalls dumped more than five feet on the hamlet of Halcottsville. As they headed into the hamlet, they immediately realized that the silhouette of the former creamery building had been dramatically altered.


Holiday Farmers' Market is Nov. 28 at Round Barn

Halcottsville — The Pakatakan Farmers’ Market will host its annual Holiday Market on Saturday, Nov. 28 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Round Barn on Route 30, Halcottsville. Most vendors for this annual event will be regulars from the Pakatakan Farmers’ Market that operates on Saturdays from May through mid-October at the historic Round Barn.
