Fleischmanns — “Threads: Quilters Talk About Their Craft,” a roundtable discussion by four accomplished Catskills quilters, will be held Saturday, May 23 at 11 a.m. at the Fleischmanns Community Church, Main Street, Fleischmanns.

Fleischmanns — Art Et Cetera has moved to 1033 Main Street in Fleischmanns, centrally located across from the post office and two doors from the Skene Memorial Library. Gallery owners John and Gloria Mulloy want to do their part in the revitalization of Fleischmanns and plan to renovate the entire building which houses the Art Et Cetera gallery and flea market.

Fleischmanns — The Village of Fleischmanns’ Village Board, recently retained consultant Alan Sorensen and his firm Planit Main Street, Inc. to assist with the creation of a Village Comprehensive Plan. Community participation is vital to the success of the plan’s creation and to this end an informational session for all Village of Fleischmanns residents will be held to solicit public input on Saturday, May 9 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Skene Memorial Library on Main Street.

More than 230 people turned out to view “Bienvenidos a Fleischmanns: An Immigrant Community in Rural America,” a documentary film by Jessica Vecchione that was screened at La Cabaña Mexican Restaurant in Fleischmanns on Saturday.
Roughly 70 people attended the afternoon screening while more than 160 were on hand for the evening showing.

Quick response by firefighters is credited with saving a Fleischmanns real estate office from serious fire damage Sunday night.
The fire at Hasay Realty on Depot Street was spotted by a neighbor about 9 p.m. Fleischmanns Fire Chief Todd Wickham said that when volunteers arrived, flames were visible in the basement.

Over two decades ago, Hamden resident Jessica Vecchione left the city life and the advertising rat race behind in favor of organic farming in Orange County. At the time, she could never have known how that decision would impact her life.
Now, more than 20 years later, she is putting the finishing touches on “Bienvenidos a Fleischmanns: An Immigrant Community in Rural America,” a documentary film about the Hispanic immigrant population in Fleischmanns that will be screened at La Cabaña this weekend.

Scott Stanford, son of Fleischmanns resident Arlene Stanford, won his fourth Emmy Award on Sunday, March 29 for Excellency in New York Sports Broadcasting. Stanford joined the WWOR My9 News Team in 2003 and now anchors the weekend sportscasts including a Sunday sports wrap up. He covers the sports beat as a reporter during the week.

Dave Morell defeated incumbent Malcolm Becker last Wednesday in the race for mayor in the Village of Fleishmanns. Morell received 70 votes. Becker, who was a write-in candidate, got 13 votes. Morell said this week that even though he would not be officially sworn in until April 6 there’s no time like the present.

It was a convincing victory for Fleischmanns mayoral candidate David Morell, who defeated incumbent Malcolm Becker by a vote tally of 70 to 13 in Wednesday's election. Morell has served as a member of the village's planning board for the past year.
