Andes woman faces DWI charges in accident that left man dead

A 45-year-old Andes woman faces two driving while intoxicated charges stemming from a fatal accident last December, but was not indicted for vehicular manslaughter.
Christine Arnao pleaded innocent last Thursday to charges of driving while intoxicated and aggravated DWI stemming from the accident in which Jon J. Church, 31, of Wells Bridge was killed.


Women's health talk

Dr. Jennifer Constable, a chiropractic doctor with a practice in Hamden, will give a presentation on women’s health at the Andes Public Library, 242 Main Street (Route 28) on Thursday, June 18 at 6:30 p.m. The talk will cover myths and truths about women’s health, review how the body works, and explain the technique of nutrition response testing.


Spring Sporting Weekend at YMCA

Claryville — A Spring Sporting Weekend at Frost Valley YMCA on June 20 and 21 will include a two-day Hunter Safety Course, along with a Women in the Outdoors event on Saturday.


Legion teams get into swing of a new season

Local baseball players didn’t get much of a break when the school baseball season came to a close recently, as the Legion baseball season is already in full swing.
“It’s an easy continuation of the high school season,” said Rick Funck, who coaches the Margaretville Legion team. Funck’s squad features 10 players from his MCS varsity squad, as well as five players from the school’s modified program. Two players from Onteora and one first-time player round out the roster to its maximum of 18 players.

Priest investigation is moving forward

Delaware County Sheriff’s Department officials are continuing their investigation of a Margaretville priest who is suspected of endangering the welfare of children.
The Very Rev. James McDevitt is being investigated in connection with alleged inappropriate behavior toward children after several complaints were made against him in recent weeks.


Burn ban proposal revised by DEC

After a one-year review, the state Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) has released a revised plan for regulating open burning.
In an effort to reduce the impacts of pollutants such as dioxins, particulate matter and carbon monoxide and to limit the risks of wildfires, the DEC announced plans last June to extend a ban on open burning statewide beyond the current ban for any municipality with a population of 20,000, a law in effect since 1972.


Community Chorale to perform two shows

The Community Chorale of the Catskills will present performances of its spring concert this week. On Friday, June 12, the chorale will be at Roxbury Central School and on Saturday, June 13 they will perform at Margaretville Central School. Both concerts are at 7:30 p.m. and there is no admission charge for either concert.


Painting and Buddhism focus of lecture series

DAA Gallery will host the second Artist Lecture Series in Delhi, featuring local artist Valley Fox in “A Buddhist Point of View” on Saturday, June 13 at 2 p.m. Valley Fox, a Buddhist from Trout Creek, will discuss painting and its relation to Buddhism.
