Margaretville — The new Freshtown of Margaretville opened its doors for business last Wednesday, just 13 days after its owners took possession of the former A&P grocery store site on Bridge Street in the village.

Mt. Tremper – For the fifth year in a row, The Spa at Emerson Resort & Spa has been awarded the elite accolade of a four-star rating from the Mobil Travel Guide. The Emerson Resort & Spa is one of only five spas in New York State to receive the honor.


Delaware County residents win case against Vioxx drug-maker Merck & Co.

A 70-year-old Harpersfield woman and an 80-year-old Bloomville woman, both of who sued Merck and Company as the maker of the arthritis drug Vioxx, recently received notices of settlement agreements. The Harpersfield woman will receive $288,000 and the Bloomville woman will receive $89,000.


Local photographer's work on display at Delaware National Bank

Delhi — Artwork currently on display at the Main Office of The Delaware National Bank of Delhi, “Thru Her Eyes,” is a collection of images taken by photographer Barbara Boucher. Boucher is a resident of New Kingston and says that her interest in photography started early in her life.


Two-day Snow Cross planned in Stamford

Stamford — The Central Catskills Trail Association is inviting all to witness a two-day action packed show! The 2009 Snow Cross, sponsored by the Delaware National Bank of Delhi, will be held on February 7 and 8 on Murphy Flats, Route 23 in Stamford.


Snowshoe hike, open house Feb. 8 at Frost Valley YMCA

Claryville — A Snowshoe Hike through some of the most pristine surroundings in the Catskills will be held at Frost Valley YMCA on Sunday, Feb. 8 from 1-3:30 p.m.
Frost Valley will be hosting an open house on that same day. There will be winter activities aplenty so visitors not interested in going on the tracking hike, can go snow tubing or enjoy one of the other programs offered.


Belleayre group seeing red over Greene business tactics

Coalition to Save Belleayre Chairman Joe Kelly has called for an investigation of existing and proposed building projects on and near Windham and Hunter Mountain ski centers, claiming that the two facilities are continuing attacks on the state-owned Belleayre Mt. Ski Center.


MTC Cable plans Downsville expansion

Margaretville-based MTC Cable has begun the process of an expansion into the hamlet of Downsville. General Manager Glen Faulkner said that if all approvals are granted, MTC Cable will enter into a franchise agreement with the Town of Colchester and replace the current Downsville Community Antenna System.


Interest high in Gillibrand's post; Hamden man tosses hat into ring

Kirsten Gillibrand was sworn in to the United States Senate as Hillary Clinton’s replacement yesterday. Back in the 20th Congressional District of New York, which includes most of Delaware County, the major political parties are hustling to find a candidate with the best chance of winning Gillibrand’s old seat in a special election.
The election will occur between 30 and 40 days after Governor Paterson calls for it.


Art in Common warms up February with music, art, fine crafts, readings

Margaretville — The multi-arts series “Art in Common” brings you fun, art and enrichment every Saturday in February at the Commons building in Margaretville — performances by Patricia Dell and Kent Brown, a group show opening at Longyear Gallery, fine craft artisans demonstrating their creative work, and Catskill authors from Purple Mountain Press regaling you with discussions about our region’s landscape, history and settlement.
