Summer is drawing to a close, and area schoolchildren will report to classes in the coming weeks. Students at Margaretville Central School begin classes today, while students at Andes and Roxbury central schools report to class on Tuesday, Sept. 8.

Storytelling Troupe performs at Andes

Andes — The Community Storytelling Troupe is gearing up for yet another great season of free storytelling concerts and workshops.
This year’s activities kick off with a performance by the Albany-based musical storytelling duo “Tales ’n Tunes” this Thursday, Aug. 27 at 6 p.m. at the Andes Library.


Two Independent candidates file for Andes town races

Two Independent candidates in the Town of Andes filed petitions with the Delaware County Board of Elections by last Tuesday’s deadline to have their names added to the ballot for November’s election.
Denise Norris will be running on the Independent line for a seat on the Andes Town Board. She will be running against Republican incumbents Martin Liddle and Daniel Grommeck. The top two vote recipients will win election.

Andes — Chace-Randall Gallery will present new works by Woodstock artists Mariella Bisson and Meredith Rosier from Aug. 21 to Sept. 27. The exhibition is comprised of waterfall imagery in watercolor by Bisson and drawings in conte, pastel, gouache and ink by Rosier. A reception for the artists will be held on Saturday, Aug. 22 from 5 to 7 p.m.

Andes — Friends of Ballantine Park offer you a free concert featuring the Academy Wind Quintet on Saturday, Aug. 22 from 2 to 4 p.m. in Ballantine Park.
This ensemble comprises players from within the United States Military Academy Concert Band and carries on the great tradition of woodwind playing that has existed at West Point since 1815.

Andes will be hopping Saturday at annual Community Day event

Andes — On Community Day in Andes, which will be held this Saturday, Aug. 8, the town is always hopping. Visitors can start out with the pancake breakfast at the firehall from 7 to 9 a.m. Then grab a bench on Main Street around 10:30 a.m. for the parade, which begins after the Trailways bus goes through. This year the parade will include all 100 campers from the Lake Delaware Boys’ Camp, which is celebrating its 100th anniversary.


ACS seeks more capital improvements funds

The Andes Central School (ACS) District will vote on August 11 on whether or not to approve an additional borrowing in excess of $300,000 to support ongoing capital improvement projects. A public hearing on the measure was held Tuesday evening.

Andes — The Andes United Methodist Church will hold its annual “Pie and Ice Cream” social on Saturday, Aug. 1, from 4-7 p.m. in the fellowship room at the church. Indoor and outdoor (weather permitting) dining will be available.
