Roxbury's Davie no-hits JCS; Andes edges MCS in softball

Roxbury’s Heather Davie tallied her second no-hitter in two years on Tuesday, as the Rockets posted a 2-0 win over the host Jefferson JayHawks.
“It was a pitchers’ duel,” said Roxbury Head Coach Jane Ware, whose own team was limited to two runs by Jefferson’s pitcher.


Tennis teams get into the swing of spring

The Margaretville Central School tennis team will be looking to combine returning talent, new talent and borrowed talent when the tennis season gets underway this week.
In addition to key returners James Warner, Michelle O’Reilly and Alex Ramos, Andes student-athletes Eric Reed and Sage Beemer will join the MCS tennis ranks, where Head Coach Jim Owdienko anticipates they will battle for the top two positions.


Andes athletes joining Margaretville teams will be focus of public meeting

A proposal to allow Andes students to join the Margaretville boys’ varsity soccer and basketball teams next year is the subject of a public meeting on Wednesday, April 7 at 7:15 p.m. in MCS Board Room.
The plan is being presented as a means of allowing Andes students to participate in varsity athletics during the 2010-11 season. Because of low enrollment, ACS officials do not anticipate being able to field boys’ teams next year for soccer or basketball.


MCS girls rally past Rams for softball win

The old adage about the fat lady singing was never truer than last Tuesday, when the Margaretville Blue Devils’ softball team went on a seven-run rally in the bottom of the seventh inning with two outs against them to post a 17-16 win over the Rams of South Kortright.
Junior Amy Filupeit’s RBI single was enough to drive in the winning run, which capped off an inning with six walks and three hits, including singles by Jessica Barringer and Christine Kelly.


Returning softball players make coaches optimistic

For the first time in two years, Andes Central School will have a softball team. Head Coach Tamara Snyder is welcoming back a core of seniors who last played for her when they were freshmen.
Leading the Mountaineers this season will be seniors Karli Tait and Rachel Andrews, who spent the past two seasons with the Margaretville softball team. Tait, a pitcher, was an All-Delaware League selection last season.

Pre-K and Kindergarten registration will be held at Andes Central School on Wednesday, April 7 from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. If you have a child who is turning four or five by December 1, 2010 and have not yet received an informational packet, please call the school at 845 676-3166.


Northern Catskill Occupational Center lists honor rolls

Grand Gorge —The following area ONC BOCES, Northern Catskill Occupational Center students, were named to the Principal’s List and Honor Roll for the second quarter of the 2009-2010 school year.


Area teams score at MCS Booster Club indoor tourney

The MCS Booster Club hosted its seventh annual indoor soccer tournament at Margaretville Central School on Friday, March 12 and Saturday, March 13. The tournament featured 48 teams divided into four age groups.

The Delaware League basketball all-stars have been announced for the 2009-2010 season.

Move over “American Idol.” “Andes Has Talent” is the new show in town. With the bright lights and glitter of a Las Vegas show stage, the Andes Central School gymnasium was the showcase for some dazzling talent Friday night.
